It's been a week of powerful workshops and storytelling as the Junior School participated in a fun, interactive author visit and an Indigenous cedar weaving workshop.
SJS students added their voices to the Truth and Reconciliation Assembly, sharing the Indigenous teachings and lessons that have stuck with them over the years.
The Grade 5s got hands-on with cultural artefacts from the shíshálh nation as part of their Sharing the Planet Unit of Inquiry, exploring Indigenous views on natural resources.
Grade 3 students welcomed Indigenous Educational Storyteller, Alysha Collie, from 3 Crows Productions for an engaging and hands-on workshop on Coast Salish art.
Two-time Governor General Award-winning Cree author, David A. Robertson, returned to SJS to visit with students in both the Junior and Senior School, as well as our friends from χpey̓ Elementary.
During Spring Break SJS had the privilege of hosting internationally acclaimed artist Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas and his team of painters, including SJS art teachers Ms. Mehrer and Ms. Van Inwegen.
