SJS’s Speed Skating Sensation

Share

As our Junior School students take to Kitsilano Ice Rink to enjoy their ice skating sessions this term, one Grade 6 is leading the way in the field of competitive speed skating!

On December 21, just as we broke for the school holidays, Jayden Li raced at a speed skating competition held in Washington State, USA, where he won gold medals in the 333m and 777m events, as well as the overall gold medal!

Last weekend Jayden took part in a three-day BC Provincial Long Track Speed Skating Championship where he achieved first place in the Four Laps Mass Start, first place in the 1500m, second place in the 300m, third place in the 1000m and won the silver medal in the overall rankings.

Jayden said: “I was so happy to have achieved my goal of winning gold medals as 2024 came to an end. This accomplishment felt like the best New Year’s gift for myself. The event last weekend was my first time participating in a long track speed skating competition as a short track speed skater. Although I feel a little regret for not winning the gold medal, I am still very happy with my results, which I worked so hard to achieve.”

A big well done to Jayden and we look forward hearing more of his speed skating success! If you, or someone you know in our community, has some good news to share, please let us know at communications@sjs.ca.
