Our Senior School students have been competing in a variety of Mathematics contests throughout the academic year and we are pleased to acknowledge students for their hard work and high achievement.
Congratulations to the Grade 9–12 students who received a Certificate of Distinction in the University of Waterloo Contests. A Certificate of Distinction is awarded to a student placing in the top 25% of all participants.
In the Canadian Senior Math Contest, Jerry Wang, Jonathan Wang, Daniel Zhang, Annie Wang, Clara Tyler, LinLin Li placed in the top 25% out of 12,305 participants with Jerry Wang earning the top score at SJS. In the Canadian Intermediate Math Contest, Max Tan, Philip Wong, Lillian Zuo received the top score at SJS out of 14,918 participants in the contest.
The SJS Grade 9s who received distinction in the Pascal Contest were Mark Ji, Jolie Ye, Daniel Che, Brian Liu, Maxime Guy, George Guan, Harvey Yang, Purab Cheema, Angel Wang, Kai von Bergmann, Andy Huang and Greg Guan, with Mark receiving the top score at SJS. In the Fryer Contest, George Guan and Brian Liu secured the highest score at SJS. In the Grade 10 Cayley Contest, Edward Li, Eva Huang, Philip Wong, Cherie Nguyen placed in the top 25% out of 21,361 entrants with Edward receiving the top score of SJS participants. Eva Huang, Edward Li and Lillian Zuo earned the top SJS score in the Galois Contest.
Our Grade 11s performed well in their contests, with Jonathan Wang receiving the top SJS score in both the Hypatia and Fermat Contests. Clara Tyler and Lucy Wang also placed in the top 25% of the 19,644 in the Fermat Contest and Jerry Wang (Grade 12) got the top SJS score in the Euclid Contest.
Our younger students participated in the Canadian National Math League with the following students receiving Certificates of Distinction for outstanding achievement. Daniel Fang (Grade 6), Azan Hayat, Ryan Liu, Jack Lummack, Charles Wang (Grade 7) and Julie Xu (Grade 8). The Grade 7 students also achieved a team score that ranked them second in our region, just one point below the first-place team.
