SJS is delighted to announce the appointment of Hazel Chee as our new Senior School Principal, starting in August 2025.
Hazel brings a wealth of experience to SJS, with over two decades dedicated to teaching and educational leadership. She is a relationship-builder who is committed to driving transformational change in the schools she leads. Her international teaching, commitment to the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy and knowledge of the Vancouver independent school community will be invaluable assets to our Senior School.
As the Senior School Principal at Stratford Hall, Hazel has a proven track record of cultivating dynamic, inclusive and student-centered learning environments where young people thrive. Previously, she taught the Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme at Mulgrave School, and she serves as an International Baccalaureate (IB) examiner.
Hazel prioritizes supporting faculty in their professional growth and empowering them to implement innovative practices that directly benefit students. She values collaborative faculty planning and leveraging the use of technology in the classroom.
Hazel’s leadership is rooted in creating a cohesive and inclusive culture to ensure every student feels valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential. She has focused on supporting students through the crucial transition from the Primary Years Programme to the Middle Years Programme, to the Diploma Programme. Hazel fosters care and advocacy for students through social, emotional learning and restorative practices.
Speaking about her new role, Hazel said, “I am deeply honoured to join SJS as a member of its dedicated team. As an IB World School, SJS has a proud history of nurturing the hearts, minds and health of its students—a legacy of which I am excited to be a part. While I bring the perspective of a leader, I am a teacher at heart, students will always be at the core of my decision-making and purpose.
