Before we head off for the winter break let’s take a look back at a few of the recent highlights from our community.

Eddie the Artist

Eddie in Grade 1 recently participated in the 2025 Student Art Exhibition at Blakes, Cassels & Graydon LLP. Eddie’s artwork was one of only 20 winners chosen out of 1,000 student artist submissions! Seeing his piece professionally framed and displayed was a wonderful moment for Eddie, and his artwork will be showcased in the law firm’s lobby in downtown Vancouver for the next year. In addition to this honour, he also received a scholarship from Arts Umbrella. Congratulations Eddie, we’re so proud of you!

Fantastic Field Hockey

During the fall, several SJS eagles could be spotted on the Vancouver Hawks Field Hockey Club U12 coed team. At the end of November, the team finished off the Greater Vancouver Hockey league with a tournament at Mulgrave and walked away with a bronze medal! Congratulations to Cara, Maya, Madeleine, Raina, Chloe L, Chloe M, Sophia and Liya in Grade 6 and Raiya in Grade 5, as well as their teammates, for their hard work and great finish to the season!

Song Success

Kody Beaudoin, IT Support Specialist, is not only tech savvy he is also musically talented. Mr. Beaudoin’s original song titled Keep the Future Human was a runner-up in the Keep the Future Human Creative Contest, which called upon creatives to submit a piece of digital media that explores or illustrates the key messages within keeping the future human. Mr. Beaudoin’s song, which also featured teacher candidate Ms. Coulson as a guest vocalist, shares how we will find ways to seek out real human character and cherish it for its unapologetic perfections as the novelty of prompting wears off. The song encourages listeners to embrace all the things that make you weird—they are now your assets. Congratulations Mr. Beaudoin for your hard work and creativity. You can listen to the full song here.

New Book Alert

Marketing Content Specialist Rachael Bell-Irving, who is usually creating stories for SJS News and social media, has her own story to share. She recently launched her fourth book, the latest instalment in her Wicked Conjuring series. The upper young adult urban fantasy adventure follows a witch and her found family of magical individuals on a globe-trotting quest to stop deadly legends from becoming reality. She celebrated the launch of The Eye of the Lion with friends, family and community of readers, and is already hard at work on the fifth and final book in the series. Congrats, Rachael.
