Welcome to our New Faculty and Staff for 2025–2026

We are excited to be welcoming 13 new faculty and staff to our community for the 2025–2026 academic year. Read on to learn more about them:

New Faculty

Kristin Bond
Senior School Learning Strategist Teacher

Kristin joins SJS with a BA in English Literature from UBC and a Master’s in Students with Disabilities from Mercy University in New York City, where she spent several years teaching elementary literacy and special education. She took a creative detour to earn her pastry arts diploma and start a custom cake business before returning to education. Outside the classroom, she loves baking, exploring the outdoors with her dog Didi and pursuing creative arts such as origami and mandala painting. 

Bina Carrasco
MYP DP Math Teacher

Dr. Bina Carrasco was born and raised in Mumbai, India. After completing her Doctorate of Education from Wilkes University, Pennsylvania, she spent 25 years with the ABA Oman International School working across the PYP, MYP and DP. She moved to Canada in 2023, where she worked as the Senior School Maths Teacher at St. Margaret’s School. Dr. Bina is excited to build new connections with the SJS community. In addition to crocheting, she enjoys assembling furniture, creative arts, travelling, badminton and cycling in her free time.

Hazel Chee
Senior School Principal

Hazel grew up in England where she pursued Linguistics and Languages before moving to Canada and starting her career in education. She joins SJS after her role as Senior School Principal at Stratford Hall. Hazel is deeply honoured to be joining SJS. Hazel is a polyglot who enjoys traveling and trying new foods from cultures around the world. Learn more about Ms. Chee from our Conversations at the SJS Kitchen Table.

Michael Debertin
MYP Science Teacher

Originally from St. Stephen, New Brunswick before moving to Vancouver 15 years ago, Michael holds a Bachelor of Sciences in Biology and Certificate in Secondary Education. After previously working as a DP Coordinator and IB Biology teacher, he is excited to start working with students at the MYP level at SJS. When not spending time with family, Michael also enjoys 3D modelling and animation in his spare time.

Ann Hsiao
MYP DP Mandarin Teacher

Originally from Taipei, Taiwan, Ann has taught Mandarin in Taiwan, Texas and Vancouver. With degrees in Chinese Literature and Education, she’s passionate about language, storytelling and inspiring students. An outdoor enthusiast and avid runner, Ann is excited to call BC home and to create engaging, creative lessons as part of the SJS community.

Jayde Fong
PYP Teacher Junior Kindergarten

Jayde is a born and raised Vancouverite with a background in Health Sciences, Psychology, and Early Childhood Care and Education. She is passionate about working with kids with special needs and outdoor education. In her spare time she loves spending time outdoors and exploring the rainforests of BC. Jayde looks forward to contributing to, and growing alongside, the supportive and inspiring SJS environment.

Adrianne Lam
MYP DP English Teacher

Originally from Hong Kong, Adrianne moved to Vancouver to pursue a Forestry Degree at UBC, and later her Bachelor of Education specializing in Secondary English and IB MYP. She is looking forward to joining the SJS community and supporting students through growth. Adrianne is a passionate athlete, enthusiastic gym-goer and tennis player. She also enjoys artistic pursuits such as drawing and welcomes new anime or pizza restaurant recommendations.

Jonathan Ng
MYP DP English Teacher

Born and raised in Toronto, Jon spent three years as a DP teacher in Hong Kong before returning to Vancouver. Outside of school he enjoys playing basketball, dancing and creative pursuits including poetry and Dungeons and Dragons. With a Master’s of International Education and a Master’s of English Studies, Jon brings a wealth of knowledge to SJS and looks forward to engaging with students.

Monica Nordman
Junior School Associate Teacher

Monica is a born-and-raised Vancouverite with a Bachelor of Education in Primary Education from Queen’s University, specializing in Outdoor and Experiential Learning, as well as a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary. When not working she enjoys the outdoors, being active and learning new languages—she’s currently tackling Swedish! Monica is looking forward to working with the Junior School students and learning alongside her new colleagues at SJS.

Róisín O’Connell 
Junior School Learning Strategist Teacher

Originally from Wexford, Ireland, Róisín joins SJS with over a decade of experience as an elementary teacher. She has taught in Ireland, New Zealand and Canada, and most recently worked as a Learning Strategist at Collingwood School. An avid adventurer, she loves snowboarding in winter, paddle boarding in summer and travelling—most recently to Mexico, Peru, Bolivia and Chile. Róisín is excited to meet the students, colleagues and families, and to become part of our vibrant school community.

Natalie Yeung
MYP DP Math Teacher

Natalie joins SJS after her previous experience of teaching in her home town of Hong Kong and locally with the Delta School District. With both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Mathematics Education, she brings a wealth of knowledge to the team. When not working, Natalie enjoys spending time outdoors and practicing aerial hoop. She is excited to get to know and work with the SJS community!

New Staff

Alruza “Dristy” Rahman
Admissions Manager

Dristy joins the Enrolment Management team with several years of experience in admissions, enrolment management, marketing and sales both in Canada and internationally. She brings a thoughtful, team-oriented approach to working with families and colleagues alike. When not working Dristy loves a good sushi dinner, preferably on the beach with a beautiful sunset. 

Janakiram “Raj” Rajkumar
Bus Driver

Raj joins SJS after an impressive 30 years with TransLink, where he was known for his excellent customer service reviews. His expertise and knowledge is a welcomed addition to the facilities team. Students can look forward to his safe and reliable transportation during morning pick-up, school events and field trips
