Sustainably Sharing Stories

Share

Friday, April 4 turned the page to another chapter in our annual Book Swap—an idea that, five years later, has become a favourite tradition in the SJS community.

Students from JK to Grade 12 had the opportunity to browse and go home with an exciting new title (or two). This event, which speaks perfectly to our goal to live more sustainably, will see these books being enjoyed again by a new owner and perhaps even making it back to be donated again next year!

Sacha Schick, who first brought the idea to SJS, shared:

“Five years ago, I had the idea to start a book swap at SJS, and with the support of the PAE, it became a reality. What I thought would be a small event has grown into a full-day celebration of reading, thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of SJS families. It’s amazing to see students sharing and trading books, fostering a love of reading while also promoting sustainability. Here’s to many more years of swapping—good for the planet, great for the brain!”

Thank you to all the families who took the time to gather books from home to donate, and an especially big thank you to our PAE and the dedicated parent volunteers who helped make the event happen:

Jojo Chow, Aiselle Domingo, Vivian Dong, Patti Glass, Sylvia Jiang, Elena Kazimirova, Ankita Khurana, April Liu, Mackie Mak, Tiffany Mak, Maryam Matloob, Jane Pan, Christine Rauser, Sacha Schick, Cheng-Yi Tong, Bonnie Vu, Jennifer Wong, Sherry Xia, Freya Zhang, and Wilma Zhao.

We hope everyone’s new books bring you a few quiet, enjoyable moments in the days and weeks ahead.
