SJS is proud to announce its Bronze certification from EcoSchools Canada for the 2024–25 school year—an exciting milestone in our very first year participating in the program!
EcoSchools is a national environmental certification program that supports and celebrates student-driven sustainability efforts in schools across Canada. It provides a framework to guide schools in taking meaningful action on climate change and environmental education, while aligning with global goals such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This Bronze certification recognizes the strong foundation we’re building in environmental learning and climate action. One standout project this year that was recognized by EcoSchools was our community clean-up initiative, with Grade 5 and Grade 2 students leading beach clean-ups in Kitsilano. Students created and shared awareness posters during their visits, encouraging stewardship and care for our local shoreline.
The certification also reflects our efforts to embed sustainable habits into everyday school life—from GOOS paper bins to energy conservation in our classrooms and active transportation like our Active Travel fortnight.
The school’s Sustainability Committee is proud of the groundwork that’s been laid and excited to build on this momentum. Watch this space for more in the coming year as we dig deeper into our sustainability goals.
