As the school year ends we want to acknowledge the dedicated staff and educators who make SJS such a special place. We would like to give a thank you and fond farewell to those who will not be returning next year, and celebrate those who are stepping up into new positions within SJS.
Staff Stepping Up
Several members of staff and faculty will be returning to SJS next year, stepping into new roles or adding new responsibilities to their repertoires.
Aman Takhar will be returning as the Junior Kindergarten ECE teacher, with Jayde Fong moving into an Education Associate role. Julia Sanderson is also returning to her PHE Specialist role. Róisín O’Connell will be stepping into the Literacy Curriculum Lead role next year in the Junior School.
Monica Nordman will be moving from the Junior School to the Senior School as the Grade 6 and 7 Socials and English teacher. Melanie Cote-Chartrand will be returning to SJS in October as the Individuals & Societies, History and TOK teacher. Congratulations to Marnie Anderson, who will be stepping into the Head of Individuals & Societies Department role next year.
Staff Saying Goodbye
This year we also say goodbye to Madison Green, MYP Grade 6 and 7 Teacher and Head of Individuals & Societies Department; Gloria Lee, Career Education Teacher and University Counsellor; and Jessica Robb, Learning Strategies Teacher. They are moving on to new adventures next year. Thank you for all you have done, consistently going above and beyond for your students. We are very excited for you as you venture onto new things.
In the MYP and DP we also want to thank Natalie Yeung, Math Teacher; Jonathan Ng, English Teacher; Aaron Au, Associate Teacher; and Stephanie Sempere, French Teacher for filling important roles at SJS. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
In the Junior School we say goodbye to Chris Seyler, PHE Teacher, who joined us for two years while Ms. Sanderson was on maternity leave to teach PE and coach volleyball and basketball. Thank you Mr. Seyler for a wonderful two years.
Last but not least, Elana Lancit, Student Records Officer, is also leaving us this year. We thank Elana for her many contributions to the school.
Staff Retiring
We also celebrate the retirement of two long-standing community members: Ms. Christine Miklitz and Mme. Suzanne Duval. You may read more about Ms. Miklitz in her Five Minutes With article.
We asked Ms. Miklitz to share a few words about her long-time colleague Mme. Suzanne Duval, who is also retiring this year after 13 years at SJS:
“Mme. Duval has been an integral part of the SJS Senior School Languages Department for 13 years. Her kindness, energy and love for francophone culture was enjoyed by her students, colleagues and parents alike. She was able to connect with everyone and the students all felt heard and appreciated. She also loved to take care of us, her colleagues. Her love of cooking led to many wonderful meals she shared with us and she even went out of her way to come in and feed us on Sundays when we were running IB orals when she did not need to be there. Mme. Duval will be keenly missed.” — Ms. Miklitz
Thank you to both Mme. Duval and Ms. Miktliz for your many years of commitment to your students and SJS. We will miss you and wish you all the best in this next chapter.
