It’s Canadian Children’s Book Week! To celebrate, we hosted Saltspring Island author and illustrator, Mike Deas!
Mike shared his career journey with our Grade 2 to 4 students, talking about his pathway from his degree, to working in video games, to illustrating for books. He also led an interactive presentation about visual storytelling and creating graphic novels, using his popular Sueño Bay Adventures series as a focal point.
With so many of our students being fans of graphic novels, getting to meet a professional of the craft was a real treat.
Mike has illustrated numerous award-winning graphic novels, non-fiction titles, and picture books including the acclaimed Scholastic Canada Biography series featuring Canadian heroes such as Terry Fox, David Suzuki and Chris Hadfield.
Thanks for joining us Mike! We can’t wait to see what this session has inspired our students to create themselves.Author visits like this are made possible through the generosity of our community through Annual Giving.
