Jumping for a Good Cause

On Monday, the Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3 students took part in the annual Jump Rope for Heart fundraising program. This event empowers children to build healthy habits and understand the importance of giving back. Together, we can make a difference in the fight to beat heart disease and stroke.

The students started out with a dance party in the Gunn Gym to warm up. Then they participated in a trick showcase in their SJS Houses, showing off the different skip rope techniques they had been practicing in their Physical Health and Education (PHE) classes. Then, in their grade groups, the students challenged themselves to set their own record for most jumps, and tested their endurance with a time challenge to jump for three minutes straight!

Parents and guardians who had come to watch also joined in the fun, with some picking up their own rope to try the final time challenge alongside their children. We love to see our parents being risk-takers alongside our students!

The Jump Rope for Heart initiative is also a great practice in resilience, as students keep getting up and trying again throughout learning this tricky skill. As Mr. Maloney says, “Try your best, and forget the rest!”

There is still time to donate. Donations are accepted for the next two weeks and SJS is already 93% of the way to our goal of raising $2,000, at the time of writing. Thank you for your support. Let’s beat heart disease and stroke together!
