SJS is getting ready to roll—to a more sustainable and healthier future!

From May 26 to June 6, our community is celebrating active travel with two exciting initiatives: two Bike to School weeks for the Junior School and Go By Bike Week for the Senior School and staff.

A brand-new highlight this year is the inaugural SJS Bike Bus, inviting students to cycle to school in a fun, social and safe group ride.

All Aboard the SJS Bike Bus

The Bike Bus will hit the road on Tuesday, May 27 and again on Tuesday, June 3, meeting at 7:30 AM and leaving at 7:40 AM sharp from King Edward and East Boulevard

Open to all SJS students and their families, the Bike (or Scooter) Bus will follow the Arbutus Greenway to school. Riders must bring a helmet, a lock and their school bag, and parents are warmly encouraged to join the ride.

Gwen Floyd, Grade 2 teacher and Go By Bike co-ordinator at SJS, is looking forward to riding as a group:

“I wanted to give both students and parents a chance to see that even if they drive from further away, there are safe, easy and fun active ways to get at least part of the way to school. This is a great way to try it with some friends. Come roll to school with us!”

Junior School: Bike, Walk or Roll!

From May 26 to June 6, Junior School students are encouraged to use active transportation to get to school—and there are plenty of fun ways to take part.

Students can bike, walk or roll (on scooters, roller blades or other small wheels) from home or a drop-off spot closer to school. Each day they participate, they’ll add a sticker to our chart and be entered into a prize draw. Whether it’s one day or every day, just a few blocks or the whole way—every trip counts!

Senior School and Staff: Join the SJS Go By Bike Team

The Senior School and all staff are invited to join the SJS team and take part in the provincial Go By Bike Week, running from May 31 to June 6. It’s a chance to celebrate those who already cycle and to encourage more people to give it a try. Already on the team? Just log your rides. New to the event? Here’s how to join:

  1. Visit Go By Bike BC to register or log in.
  2. Join the SJS team via this specific link.
  3. Start logging any and all bike trips—to school, the store, the gym or just for fun with your family!

Senior School students who sign up are also eligible for a prize draw—please email Ms. Floyd at gfloyd@sjs.ca once you’ve joined.

Let’s Ride Together

Whether you’re in Junior or Senior School, on a scooter or a bike, heading to class or out for a spin with family—every ride counts. Join us this spring as we ride, roll and walk toward a healthier and cleaner tomorrow!
