Sidney Performs at Invictus Games Opening Ceremony with Katy Perry and Roxanne Brenau
Sidney Ha, Grade 8, had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games, which came to the city this week!
The opening ceremony featured performances from Katy Perry, Roxane Bruneau, Noah Kahan, Nelly Furtado and Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and Sidney danced alongside Katy Perry and Roxane Bruneau during their performances.
The experience began in November when Sidney’s longtime jazz teacher, who is a recognized choreographer, was tasked to cast and choreograph for the opening ceremony and Sidney was picked! She then learned the dances virtually through a video recording ahead of the first rehearsal and over four days of six-hour rehearsals, meeting and dancing with new friends, they all learned their formations and choreography and prepared for the performances.
Congratulations to Sidney, what an incredible event to be a part of! See some photos of her experience below.

Senior Students Place in Top 0.5% in Canada in Stock Market Competition
Our Senior Business Club members take part in the JABC Investment Strategies Program every year. Each team is provided with $100,000 virtual cash for investment in stocks traded in North American stock exchanges (NASDAQ, TSX and NYSE) with the goal of raising as much profit as possible within a six week period.
SJS entered 19 teams this year and two teams placed in the top 0.5% out of the 2,700 teams from across the country.
Harvey Yang (Grade 10) made almost $42,000 in profit over the six weeks, placing him 12th in Canada, and team “Easy Peezy” aka Luke Macdonnell and Athan Irinakis (Grade 11) placed 16th after making almost $38,000.
Congratulations to our business-minded students, your hard work paid off (literally!)
