Senior Boys Crowned SJS JAM Champions!

Share

The energy was electric as our Senior Boys competed in our annual JAM tournament this past weekend. With team and school spirit shining throughout the weekend, our Senior Boys claimed victory against some of the top ‘A’ tier teams in the province, including the defending provincial champions!

The whole school came out to support at the blackout game on Friday with alumni, students, staff and parents watching the finals over the weekend to see the boys take top place at our home tournament for the first time in over a decade!

The SJS team cruised to a 79-60 victory against Regent Christian at the blackout game on Friday which put them into the semi-finals where they faced a formidable foe in Gidgaland Kuuyas Naay from Haida Gwaii. After a very even first half, SJS opened the second half on a 12-2 run and held on for the 80-68 win. The victory put our Eagles in the final against perennial powerhouse Unity Christian. Kian Afshar, Grade 11, was on fire, hitting six three-pointers in the first quarter to put SJS 31-11 after one. SJS used that solid start to maintain a comfortable cushion for the rest of the game, winning the championship 81-66, which was a special moment for the whole team but especially for the graduating seniors who leave this year as JAM Champions. Congratulations to Tournament All-Star Kian Afshar and MVP Viv-Anderson Francois.

With lots more basketball action to come this season, we wish our Junior Girls team good luck as they play in the ISAA Tournament this weekend and the Bantam Boys will be playing at our next home tournament, the Colin Jack Memorial Tournament, next weekend.
