Today, August 28 marked the beginning of the end for the Grade 12s, who kicked off their final year at SJS with the annual Grad Pancake Breakfast. A beloved tradition put on by their parents, the volunteers arrived as early as 7:00 AM to start preparing pancakes, bacon and a variety of other delicious accompaniments for the students and teachers.
The event began with Ms. Hazel Chee, Senior School Principal, who welcomed the students with warm words, reminding them to enjoy the moments on their final first day at SJS.
“Today I want you to look around, look at the people who are next to you. The people who have challenged you and encouraged you, laughed with you, laughed at you and maybe occasionally driven you a little crazy. This is your village. As you head into your final year, you have got to remember we never do things alone. We carry a little bit of our village wherever we go.”

After breakfast, each student was given their grad tie, IB pin and grad cardigan, as well as a letter that they had written to themselves during their MYP days. The room was full of smiles, shock and laughter as the students reminisced about their time at SJS. Sixteen of this year’s class are Lifers who have been with the school since Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten or Grade 1.
