Over the mid-term break, 28 students from Grades 10–12 and five members of faculty embarked on an unforgettable journey through France and Belgium.
In Paris, we immersed ourselves in culture and history by visiting iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame, and admiring artistic masterpieces at the Musée d’Orsay. A day trip to the magnificent Palace of Versailles gave us a glimpse into the grandeur of French royalty, while tasting escargots offered a bold and memorable culinary adventure!
Normandy provided profound lessons in history. We paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the Canadian Cemetery and learned about Canada’s pivotal role in the D-Day landings at Juno Beach. Emotional visits to Omaha Beach and Arromanches brought the sacrifices of World War II into sharp focus.
Our journey continued through Dieppe’s pebble beaches and the haunting battlefields of Vimy Ridge. In Belgium, highlights included the moving Menin Gate Ceremony, exploring the historical sites of Ypres and Passchendaele, and indulging in Belgian chocolate and waffles while strolling the picturesque streets of Bruges.
This trip not only deepened our understanding of history but also fostered friendships and left us with unforgettable memories. A heartfelt merci to our dedicated chaperones—Ms. Connell, Ms. Finn, Ms. Frost and Ms. Zimmer—whose care and guidance made this adventure a remarkable and safe experience for all.
