We are thrilled to announce that the recent donation drive and pop-up shop event to support Mom2Mom was a big success! Thanks to the incredible generosity of the SJS community, we collected a huge amount of winter clothing for women and children, which have now found its way into the hands of families supported by Mom2Mom.
From October 15–18, our school lobby was bustling with donations, and it was heartwarming to see parents and families come together to support a cause that truly makes a difference. With the help of our amazing SJS parent volunteers, the donations formed a free shopping experience, held at the Mom2Mom headquarters on Tuesday, for the families who are living with poverty.
To ensure the moms could browse the items at the pop-up shop in peace, our wonderful Grade 11 students, Alice Ao and Chloe Chen, set up a kids’ entertainment and craft station to keep the children happily engaged.
A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Christine Hooge for her unwavering commitment to this cause and for spearheading the initiative alongside our dedicated team of parent volunteers. Your hard work and passion ensured that everything ran smoothly, from sorting donations to setting up the shop.
Thank you once again to everyone who donated, volunteered and spread the word. Your kindness has made a meaningful impact in the lives of families in our city.
A special thank you to the SJS facilities team for transporting racks and rails for the pop-up shop and to the team of parent volunteers who helped with the collecting, transporting and sorting of donations, as well as setting up and running the store on Tuesday. Thank you to Yurie Chen, Jane Chiang, Jojo Chow, Aiselle Domingo, Melody Dy Sun, Suzie Fong, Christine Hooge, Sylvia Jiang, April Liu, Mackie Mack, Lili Niu, Jane Pan, Christine Rauser, Sacha Schick, Cheng-Yi Tong, Bonnie Vu, Judy Wang, Pen Wang, Jennifer Wong, Katie Wu and Nicole Zhu.
Supporting Other Parent Initiatives
This clothing drive was the first initiative launched by the Parent Association this year, aimed at encouraging parents involved in non-profits and volunteerism to invite fellow SJS parents to join them. It’s a wonderful way to give back to our community, connect with other parents, and model the importance of service to our children.
If parents would like to share information or would also benefit from having the SJS community support a cause you are working with, please contact the PAE at stjohnspae@gmail.com.
