SJS says “Thank You!”

This week at SJS has been filled with gratitude as we honoured the people who have contributed their time, energy and generosity to the benefit of our students and school.

Through two special events—the St. John’s Day Recognition assembly and the Founders Circle reception (below)—we recognized the volunteers, faculty and supporters who have helped to shape the SJS experience.

St. John’s Day: Honouring Volunteers and Faculty

On Monday, we gathered in the Gunn Gym for a joyful St. John’s Day Recognition assembly, welcoming parents and former staff to celebrate those who help make SJS the vibrant place it is today.

Parent volunteers are the heartbeat of many school activities, from organizing special events like Family Fun Day and the Back to School BBQ to supporting daily routines like Hot Lunch, Lost & Found and Crosswalk Duty. We are deeply grateful for your commitment—SJS simply wouldn’t be the same without you. View the presentation of volunteer names.

In addition, the assembly included tributes honouring faculty members who have reached service milestones: Ms. Lewandowska (10 years), Ms. Bacci, Mr. Dhakal and Ms. Lowden (15 years). Their enduring impact on students and the school community was celebrated by Ms. Takhar, Ms. Morden and Mr. Ahn.

The assembly wrapped up with a wonderful rendition from the Senior Choir of Weak by SWV, and a standout solo performance from Grade 2 singer William Qu of 我爱你中国 (I Love You China).

Following the assembly, guests made their way to the Atrium for a Recognition Tea where they enjoyed delicious SJS-themed cakes and the chance to connect.

Founders Circle: Celebrating Generosity

Meanwhile on Thursday evening, members of the Founders Circle—families who contribute $1,500 or more annually to the Annual Giving program—and major capital and endowment supporters, gathered at the Point Grey Golf and Country Club for a special evening celebrating the transformative impact of philanthropy at SJS.

Guests heard from Ariana Debreuil about her Annual-Giving-funded role this year as the ADST Specialist and the impact of the ADST program in the Junior School. Showing one of the “BattleBots” robots programmed by a Grade 4 student, she also paid tribute to Michael LeBlanc, Director of Operations and Information Technology, for his partnership in pushing forward EdTech at SJS. Guests also heard from Coach Kinman about the importance of students having diverse interests as well as the Senior Boys basketball team’s provincial banner win, the logistics of which, including transport, entry fees and transportation (as well as kits and uniforms), were funded by donations through Annual Giving.

Thoughtful remarks from Board Chair and Governor Grant Christoff and fellow Governor Michael Wu on the importance of philanthropy, along with a heartfelt message of thanks from Head of School Blayne Addley, rounded out the program, reminding everyone of the power of generosity in sustaining and enriching SJS programs, facilities, and student opportunities.
