Friday, April 10 marked our sixth annual Book Swap, a PA initiative that brings the SJS community together with sustainable action and a love of reading.
For the week leading up to the event students are asked to bring in books from home to donate. With support from Ms. Chang-Gardecki, PYP Teacher Librarian, the parent volunteers collate all the books and lay them out in a massive spread in the Atrium.
Students who donated are then invited down to pick up their new-to-them books. A book donated means a book to take, and some students walked away with piles of new reading material (as many as 16 books in one case!) At the end of the day any books leftover were up for grabs and all students were invited to pick up a new story or two.
Thank you to Ms. Chang-Gardecki for her support and to the parent volunteers Sacha Schick (lead), Jiahong Guo, Dorothy Lim, Mackie Mack, Maryam Matloob, Miguel Martinez Ceja, Sanaz Vosough, Ingrid Wangsaseputra, Asteria Zhang, Wilma Zhao and students Zozo and Cruz Kupecz.
We also want to thank Arelie Stamm and Alex Lung for taking the remaining books at the end of the day: Arelie took the books to an NGO that her dad is involved with, and Alex took the books for his CAS project that is also running a book drive.
