We all know our teachers for the dedication, passionate educators they are, but outside SJS they are up to some pretty incredible things. Here are just a few highlights from the awesome things our staff and faculty have been up to lately.
Welcome Baby Henry
Ms. Emily Moss, PYP Grade 4 Teacher, recently welcomed a new addition to her family. Henry, born four weeks ago, came at a healthy 8lbs 11oz, 57cm, and both mom and baby are doing well. Congratulations to Ms. Moss and her family. We can’t wait to meet baby Henry in the future.
Trading Art Around the World
Ms. Melanie Mehrer, MYP and DP Art and TOK Teacher, is participating in the Im-Printed International Printmaking Exchange. This is the third time she has been invited to participate, with past themes including “Calm versus Chaos” and “Flow”. This year the theme is “Open,” for which Ms. Mehrer will create 11 prints to send to the United Kingdom. The organizers will then send her ten prints back by various printmakers from around the world. What a fun and interesting way to see how semi-professional and professional artists interpret the theme through their prints.
Certified to Glide
Many of you know Mr. Bryan Deans, MYP Music Teacher and Head of Fine Arts Department, for his exceptional musical talents, but did you also know he is also an expert glider? He started flying at eleven years old and has now logged over 3,000 hours of flights, is co-owner of Invemere Soaring Centre and the Chief Flying Instructor for the non-profit Vancouver Soaring Association. Now he’s taken on a new mantle as an Authorized Person, meaning he has the authority to officially grant licenses to other pilots. Congratulations Mr. Deans on this achievement. The sky’s the limit!

It’s a bittersweet farewell to our teacher candidates Ms. Coulson and Ms. Graham, who have finished their placement with us. They now head off to complete their degrees and start their own teaching careers. Thank you Ms. Coulson and Ms. Graham for your time and dedication to our students during your time at SJS!
A Master of Education
Congratulations to Mr. Daniel Ahn, Senior School Vice-Principal and MYP Coordinator for completing his Master’s of Education from the University of British Columbia! Mr. Ahn has been working very hard on this achievement, and now that he’s done writing all his own essays he looks forward to helping students focus on theirs! Congratulations Mr. Ahn!
