Spring sports are well under way at SJS. Here’s a recap of the action so far and a preview of some upcoming events.
Badminton
Junior and Senior Boys and Girls badminton teams have been busy, especially the Senior teams who are playing in two leagues, LMISSAA and GVISAA. Last week, the team traveled to Victoria on Thursday, April 24 to play in the annual ISAA Tournament hosted by St. Michaels University School, where the boys team came home with a third place finish.
The last week of league play is coming up for the Sr. teams as well as our Junior Boys and Girls and Bantam Girls teams.
Playoff tournaments are May 13 for Bantams, May 15 for Juniors and May 21 for Seniors.
Ultimate
The provincially ranked Senior Ultimate team has had a strong start to the season.
They are tied for 2nd thus far in LMISSAA league play and just finished 2nd at last Thursday’s nine school GVISAA tournament. They are preparing for the Vancouver Sea to Sky Zone Tournament on May 9 where the top four out of eight teams will advance to the BCSS Provincials.
The Junior Ultimate team finished in 2nd place at Tuesday’s GVISAA tournament. They finished the regular season in 3rd place out of six teams and will play their LMISSAA playoffs on Friday, May 9.
Track and Field
Grade 8–12 track and field athletes had three league meets in April, preparing for the LMISSAA league finals on May 8 and 9. Students who finish in the top four will qualify for the Vancouver Sea To Sky Zone Championships on May 22 and 23.
Grade 6 and 7 track and field athletes competed in their first meet on Wednesday, April 23 hosted by UBC. Grade 7 brothers Sam Camp-Anderson and Will Camp-Anderson did very well, winning five of the six events they competed in.
The team will be joined by Grade 4s and 5s on Monday, May 12 when they take part in the ISEA Championships.
Golf
We have four golfers competing at the ISAA Tournament against 17 other independent schools on Monday, May 5 at McCleery Golf Course.

Sun Run
Students and staff also took up the challenge of the Sun Run last weekend. SJS’s top female runner Reet Cheema ran in an impressive 52:43. Meanwhile SJS’s top male runner was Douglas Cassidy in 42:17. A shout out also to SJS’s top staff runner Terry Jiang who ran the course in 54:43.
Finally, the very best of luck to staff members Lyndsey Longeri, Aliya Minnema and Keslie Moffatt who are running the Vancouver Half-Marathon this Sunday (May 4). Â
Go Eagles!
