With the blue skies of spring comes a jam-packed Term 3 sports season including Badminton, Golf, Track and Field and Ultimate. Catch up with what’s been going on across athletics over the last few weeks and see our students in action in the gallery below.
Badminton
The Senior Boys and Senior Girls Badminton teams have had a busy season playing in both the LMISSAA League and the GVISAA League. They recently played at the annual ISAA Tournament, hosted by St. Michael’s University School in Victoria on April 23, where the girls finished fourth and the boys came home with the silver medal.
In the LMISSAA leagues the girls finished fifth out of seven teams overall. The boys team finished third, qualifying them for the league playoffs.
The Junior Boys and Junior Girls Badminton teams also have a busy season playing in the GVISAA League. The Junior Boys team finished with a 1–3 record, which unfortunately means they did not qualify for playoffs this year. The Junior Girls team will be heading into their final match on Tuesday, May 12. If they defeat John Knox they will qualify for the GVISAA playoffs, which SJS is hosting on Thursday, May 14.
Golf
It was a beautiful day on the Langara Golf Course for our co-ed golf team’s exhibition match last week. Spirits were as high as the sun as our players demonstrated their love of the game in some friendly competition against York House, Stratford Hall, Vancouver Christian, Fraser Academy and West Point Grey Academy.
The team proceeds to the VS2S Zone Championship on Wednesday, May 20 against their fellow A tier schools with a chance to advance to the provincial championships.
Ultimate
The co-ed Senior Ultimate team has been enjoying the great weather of April and May for their 2026 season. They finished with a 4–4 record in league play. The team is playing today (Friday, May 8) in the AA Playoffs, and then heading to the Vancouver Sea-To-Sky Zone Championships on Monday, May 11. The top three teams in the eight team Zone tournament will qualify for the BCSS Provincials!
The Junior Ultimate team has also seen a lot of action this season. At the GVISAA tournament on April 22 the team finished second out of four teams. They ended the LMISSAA regular season with a 5–1 record, placing second overall as they also head into the playoffs today, Friday, May 8.
The Grade 6 and 7 Ultimate team has participated in three game days at Winona Park leading up to the ISEA Championships on Thursday, May 14. They will play at least three games during the day, having fun and showing great spirit while trying to bring home a championship.
In the Junior School, students in Grade 4 got their first taste of organized sport and students in Grade 5 took part in their first competitive games. The Grade 5 Ultimate team participated in three game days at Winona Park, where they worked on their teamwork and endurance while also having a ton of fun.
Track and Field
The Senior Track and Field team (Grades 8–12) has competed in three LMISSAA League meets in April. The League finals took place on May 6 to 7, with athletes needing to place in the top four of their respective events to qualify for the Zone Championships. Stay tuned for the end of term athletic report to hear how the team did.
The Grade 6 and 7 Track and Field team will be heading to the ISEA Championships on May 11. The Grade 4 and 5 athletes will be joining them at the championship as well! We wish them all the best at this major competition.
