Lines are being learned, steps are being memorized, and songs are being sharpened—there’s no doubt about it: musical rehearsals are in full swing at our school.
This week brought an especially exciting milestone. The set is officially complete! Mr. Deans, Ms. V and Mr. Walker visited Port Coquitlam to see the progress firsthand, giving them a real sense of the space the cast and crew will soon bring to life. The set build is led by SJS parent, Brian Low. We are incredibly thankful to Mr. Low for his hardwork, creativity and support of the theatre program.
Back at school, rehearsals are buzzing. Students are deep into scene work, exploring the tone and emotional feel of each moment while learning their blocking—the choreography of how the actors will move around the stage. Every element of the musical is developing in tandem: choreography, staging, vocal work, and of course, the musicians rehearsing tirelessly to perfect the score.
The excitement is growing as all the moving parts begin to align. As Grade 7 cast member Elisa shared:
I think rehearsal is going pretty well. I’m most looking forward to putting all the pieces together so we can do it with the whole set and everything. — Elisa
