The Card Project

Share

Time and time again our students demonstrate the power that creativity has in philanthropy. Over the past few weeks students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 7 have been creating artwork to support a Grade 8 Service Initiative called The Card Project. Read more about how students are turning art into action, and how you can support the cause.

Getting Artsy With It

Each student was given a blank piece of card paper and instructed to create a piece of art all of their own. The possibilities were endless and it was a great way for students to express their creativity.

The art was then collected and sent to The Card Project, a local organization that creates a catalogue and prints the artwork onto cards for the students to take home. At the time of writing, all SJS families will have received a sample card with their child’s artwork. But this is more than just a simple take-home piece—this is a chance to make a real difference.

Creativity in Service

Parents have the opportunity to order their child’s artwork on a variety of items, ranging from greeting cards to mugs, tote bags to t-shirts. Not only do parents get a one-of-a-kind treasure featuring their child’s artwork, but they will be contributing to a great cause. Twenty percent of the profits from all sales of The Card Project go toward a charity of the Grade 8s choosing.

Last year the cohort chose to support the Canadian Mental Health Association, as they felt this was an initiative that also supports our SJS community. After generating nearly $7,000 in sales, this earned last year’s Grade 8s nearly $1,395 to donate to CMHA!

Our Grade 8s this year will choose their charity closer to spring break after the proceeds have been confirmed. Orders are open until March 8. Go to www.thecardproject.ca to see your child’s art online and the beautiful products that can be ordered. Our school’s access code is SJ74

Orders will be delivered from March 30 to April 3. If you have any questions, Ms. Ferguson, Service as Action Coordinator, is happy to help: tferguson@sjs.ca
