Our students have been up to all sorts in the fields of science, sport and the arts over the summer break. Here we celebrate some of their successes and good news from over the summer months.
Louisa Represents BC on Volleyball National Stage
Louisa Cassidy (Grade 12) had the incredible opportunity to play on the U18 Team BC Volleyball team this summer. After a rigorous training camp in Kamloops, she travelled to Calgary with the team to compete in the Canada Cup. One of the highlights of the five-day tournament was when Louisa’s team beat the Canadian team! With a tough loss in the quarters, Team BC ended fifth place. Louisa said: “It was an amazing experience that I am so incredibly grateful to have been a part of!”
Elizabeth Secures Golfing Gold In Three Tournaments
After a delightful and relaxing adventure through Japan, China and Oregon this summer, Elizabeth (Grade 4) returned to the golf course with a refreshed mind and body. Having refrained from holding a golf club for six weeks, she made a spectacular comeback, capturing three consecutive gold medals!
Elizabeth competed in three local tournaments as the youngest participant in the 9–10 age division. Her secret to success was not rooted in relentless practice. Instead, she brought a playful spirit to the course, treating the competitions like “playdates with my friends.” Her approach paid off, and she couldn’t be happier with the experience and prizes. Well done Elizabeth!
Julian and Julio Place 1st and 3rd in Youth World Cup Live Painting Competition
After three hours of live painting at the competition held in Richmond in August, Grade 2 twins Julian and Julio walked away with first and third prize in the 7–12 age group!
Julian’s artwork, which took first place, centred around the theme of environmental protection. The piece unfolds from the perspective of a small bird, highlighting the rapid pace of modern development with towering buildings and transportation that have improved human living standards. However, his piece also served as a reminder not to neglect the protection of our environment. In the upper right corner, a musical score plays a beautiful melody, symbolizing the harmony and beauty between people, infrastructure and nature, reminding us of the ultimate goal of protecting these important ecosystems.
Julian’s artwork was auctioned on the spot, with proceeds donated to UNICEF to help children in need. A big well done to both Julian and Julio for their impressive creations against the clock and for an important cause!
Elise Places 5th in Country in Beach Volleyball
Elise Bereti (Grade 11) enjoyed a fun and successful season of high-level beach volleyball, where she and her partner finished 5th in the country at the Beach Nationals!
Tournaments took her all over the province over the summer and she also travelled to USC to participate in a Prospect Camp. There she got to see the campus, got coaching from the USC head coach, Brad Keller, meet the current players, as well as a lot of other volleyball players from across the US!
