As we step into a new school term, there’s no shortage of exciting events and excursions lined up! From thrilling outdoor adventures to creative concerts, exhibitions and important tournaments, there’s something for every SJS student, parent and grandparent to look forward to.
Here’s a look at what’s coming up term.
Winter Sports Extravaganza
With winter in full swing, students are ready to embrace the season’s activities. From skiing and ice skating, to the heat of the basketball season, there’s plenty of action this term.
- Ice Skating: Our Junior School students will take to the ice for fun-filled skating sessions at Kits Ice Rink this term—an activity that’s sure to keep spirits high throughout the chilly season.
- Skiing and Snowboarding: Junior and Senior students will be taking to the slopes for day trips or race days to enjoy everything our local mountains have to offer. From Nordic skiing, showshoeing, skiing and snowboarding—there’s something for everyone!
- Basketball: The basketball season is in motion and we have two big home tournaments coming up in the next couple of weeks. The Senior Boys JAM Tournament (January 23–25) followed closely by the Bantam Boys Colin Jack Tournament (February 7-8). These events are always thrilling, with intense competition and plenty of team spirit. Join us for the blackout game next Friday. More details to come.
Adventuring Beyond the Classroom
This term promises a series of exciting off-campus trips and outdoor explorations.
- The Yukon Trip (February 14–21): A winter adventure like no other! Some of our Grade 8 & 9 students will venture to the wild beauty of the Yukon for an immersive experience in nature, wildlife and culture.
- Grade 11 Winter OE Trip (March 3–5): Grade 11 students will embark on a winter outdoor education trip, testing their skills and teamwork in the wilderness.
- Costa Rica Trip (March 18–26): Over the spring break, students will enjoy the natural beauty and vibrant culture of Costa Rica—an international adventure filled with exploration and adventure.
Showcasing Creativity & Learning
This term is also about celebrating student achievements in the arts, technology and personal projects.
- STEAM Fair (February 24): Get ready to be amazed as students showcase their innovative and creative projects at the annual STEAM Fair. Expect hands-on demonstrations, experiments and cutting-edge designs.
- DP Art Exhibition (March 5): A stunning display of artistic talent from our DP students, featuring their artwork in a range of media.
- MYP Personal Project Exhibition (March 6–7): Students will present their personal projects—a culmination of creativity, research, personal growth and hardwork.
Community and School Spirit
Throughout the term, we’ll also come together as a community to celebrate milestones and show support.
- Lunar New Year Assembly and Tea (February 3): Celebrate the start of the Lunar New Year with an exciting and vibrant assembly and tea! This annual event is a fantastic way for students to learn about and experience the traditions, cultures and customs surrounding this important celebration. You can RSVP online.
- Alumni Lunch & Learn Session (February 7): Following the launch last year, join us for an insightful session where students, staff and alumni come together for lunch while learning something new—an informal yet enriching experience!
- Jump Rope for Heart (March 7): A fun and healthy way to raise awareness and funds for a great cause! Junior School students will jump rope for heart health, all while having fun with their friends.
- Spring Concert (March 12): Our talented musicians, dancers and performers will take the stage to showcase their hard work and creativity in a vibrant Spring Concert!
- Grandparents Day (March 14): A day to celebrate the special role of grandparents in our students’ lives. It’s a wonderful time to show our appreciation and share the joy of school with our extended family members.
