Thirty students from SJS MYP Theatre recently embarked on an enriching cultural excursion to Arts Umbrella for a captivating performance of Eco Macbeth, performed by their Grade 7 to12 cast. This innovative production breathed new life into Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, weaving environmental themes into the haunting tale of ambition and fate.
The Grade 8 to 10 SJS students were fully immersed in the experience, captivated by the creative, simple staging and the powerful relevance of the “Eco” adaptation. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to see Shakespearean language leap off the page and onto the stage in a one-hour adaptation.
The principal role of Macbeth was played by the son of our very own Grade 2 teacher, Ms. Floyd, who was pleased to share the journey and work that the young people in the Arts Umbrella Troupe had done to bring such a powerful show to the stage.
SJS Students Reflect

“It was very thought-provoking to see how an eco message could be applied to a piece of Shakespeare.” —Ethan, Grade 10
