We’ve enjoyed many SJS Alumni returning to the school recently! Here are three stories of alumni coming back to campus so far this year.
Ben Inspires Grade 11s Ahead of CAS Volunteering

We welcomed back Ben Wong ’22 to speak with our Grade 11 CAS students this term. Ben, who has set up his own tutoring service, told the students about the Learning Buddies Network, an organization he is passionate about and has been involved with for several years now, who are currently seeking volunteer students.
Ben also shared his experience with his CAS Project. Inspired by a conversation with Mr. Dhakal, Ben and three of his classmates planned, promoted and completed a 50km walk to support Nepalese programs in need. Their efforts raised $10,000 and the result is a basketball pitch at Shree Mahendra Secondary School in Pokhara which is still standing strong and in use today!
Darren Delivers Lighting Rig Training for Students

Darren Lau ’24 returned to campus to deliver a training session to staff and Grade 12 students on how to get the most out of the very advanced lighting rig in the SJS Drama Studio.
Darren, who completed his studies at SJS (including IBDP Theatre) and is currently studying computer science at SFU, was a patient and kind teacher who helped the students improve their skills in creating the best-in-class production standards possible. Mr. Walker, MYP and DP Drama Teacher, said “It’s always a pleasure to learn from people with hands-on knowledge, but learning from student alumni is even better! Thank you, Darren from all the productions to come in the Drama studio!”
Alumni Band Perform at SJS Spring Concert

Three SJS alumni (George Whyte ’24, Rayzell Tjandra ‘23 and Alex Smith ’21), alongside two friends, have formed ‘The Way Up’ band. They performed Kansas: Carry On Wayward Son at the SJS Spring Concert last week and we look forward to more performances from them in the future!
